PARENT- CHILD MATH TALK AT BED TIME IMPROVES CHILD’S MATH ACHIEVEMENT AT SCHOOL
A new study conducted by experts in Department of psychology at University of Chicago, has demonstrated that some parent child talk at bed time related to simple math through short numerical bed time problems(iPad app) significantly increased the math ability of the students. The students were first graders. This counters the popular belief that child’ math education is primarily a responsibility of the school and the parent has very little role to play in it. KNOW MORE
Has he proven an 80 year old Math problem?
Fields medal winner Terence Tao from University of California, Los Angeles submitted paper to arXiv preprint server in claiming to prove an 80 year old Erdo’s discrepancy problem. This problem states that any string of numbers 1 and -1 can add to a very large value by counting only the numbers at a fixed interval for a finite number of steps. Tao’s proof proved this conjecture right. This proof comes after years of attempts to solve the problem by hand or computer. Terence Tao was also the winner of the prestigious Fields medal in 2006.
